History

Founded in 1999 under the direction of Pearl D. Wardlow, Dance Spectrum strives to develop the versatile dancer offering an array of dance classes with an emphasis on ballet training.  A family owned business, Dance Spectrum is known for its tasteful and age appropriate choices in music and movement.  Since its inception, Dance Spectrum has produced 20 annual end of year productions (including the story ballets, "Cinderella", "Sleeping Beauty", and "Alice in Wonderland"), and 8 Nutcracker Ballet productions all to much success.  Dance Spectrum was recognized by Senator Barbara Boxer in 2006 and by Senator John J. Benoit in 2009 for its success in providing high caliber dance training and performance opportunities in the Pass Area.  In the fall of 2013, Dance Spectrum was voted Best Dance Studio for Kids in the Inland Empire by voters on the I.E. Hotlist.

Philosophy

Dance is a special art form which can transport, inform, and inspire.  At Dance Spectrum, students learn more than just steps.  Our instructors strive to bring out the best in each student.  Respect, dedication, and increased confidence are just a few of the traits developed in each dancer--valuable qualities for life outside of the studio and beyond.  It is also our hope that students leave Dance Spectrum with a genuine love and appreciation of dance as well as the other arts.

Classes

Students thoroughly enjoy classes while still learning essential concepts & principles crucial to each dance form.  A variety of classes are offered for students ages 2 1/2 through adult in varying levels.  Mommy & Me, Pre-Ballet & combination classes introduce the young student to the dance studio elements, student etiquette, and basic fundamentals while utilizing whimsical props to help stimulate interest and illustrate basic concepts.  Beginning through Advanced Level Classes further develop the dancer offering level appropriate technical challenges and an emphasis on developing self-confidence, performance skills, a genuine love of movement and the art of dance.

Performance Opportunities

Dance is a performing art and nothing rewards a student more than performing in a high quality stage production in costume under the stage lights.

Annual End of Year Production: Each year, students are given the opportunity to perform in an annual End of Year Production.  The format for the end of year production alternates between an all inclusive show format which includes ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip-hop, acro/tumbling, & Hawaiian students and a separate story ballet and a separate tap, jazz, hip-hop etc. production. Dance Spectrum will present "The Land of Stories" in June 2022 featuring ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical/contemporary, modern, musical theater, hip-hop, acro, & Hawaiian/Polynesian students.

Nutcracker Ballet: Dance Spectrum presented "The Nutcracker" with new choreography in Dec. 2021 to much success.  Normally we present "The Nutcracker" Ballet every other year.  However, the cancellation of our 2020 production due to the pandemic disrupted our performance calendar, therefore,  we will be presenting "The  Nutcracker" again in December 2022 even though we just presented it in Dec. 2021.  Auditions for our next production of "The Nutcracker" will be held on Saturday August 20th 2022.  The dates for our next production of the Nutcracker will be announced.   Auditions are open to all Dance Spectrum ballet students enrolled in ballet ages 3-18.  Boys & Parents not necessarily enrolled in ballet are invited to sign our interest list to be considered to perform in roles such as Teen or Adult Guests, Toy Soldiers, Mouse King, and the Nutcracker Prince/Nephew.

Spectrum Dance Ensemble Performing Group:  SDE is a performing group created to provide dedicated and talented dance students enhanced training experiences, exciting performance opportunities, & some competitive/adjudicated events. Spectrum Dance Ensemble is made up of students ages 3-18 who are normally selected by audition each year in the June.   Please email us for audition times for the 2023-2024 season beginning in April 2023.  Students need to have training in Ballet & Jazz prior to auditioning (exceptions are sometimes made for our youngest group-training in Ballet only is fine, however, if accepted, the student must enroll in Ballet & Jazz class).  Through performing at community events for for service clubs, retirement communities, members of Spectrum Dance Ensemble learn the value of giving back to the community and see first hand the joy that sharing their gift of dance can bring to others.  Please click on the Spectrum Dance Ensemble page for more information about this exciting opportunity.
