spectrum dance ensemble
Spectrum Dance Ensemble is a performing group founded to provide dedicated & talented dance students enhanced training and performance opportunities. Members of Spectrum Dance Ensemble learn a sense of civic duty & community involvement through performances for local service clubs, fundraisers, festivals, & convalescent homes. Throughout the years, the group has also performed at such exciting venues as Disneyland, California Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm, the San Diego Wild Animal Park as well as at multiple dance competitions, winning various awards. The SDE performing group performs throughout the year and is required to attend multiple dance conventions/workshops at which the members hone their skills in dance class with teachers and choreographers active in the dance and entertainment field. The performing group is sub-divided into various sub-groups based on age and skill level.
Normally Auditions are held at the end of each dance year in June for the following dance year. However, due to the interruption of the 2019-2020 Season (their two competitive events were cancelled), we are carrying over those students' memberships through the 2020-2021 dance year therefore open auditions will not be held this year. They will compete with their same dances from the 2019-2020 season. Students interested in auditioning in June of 2021 for the 2021-2022 season should have training in Ballet & jazz (minimum) before auditioning. Exceptions are sometimes made for our youngest group. Once accepted, all members are required to enroll in Ballet & Jazz classes. Please note that auditions are selective meaning not all students auditioning will necessarily be selected to be a member of this special group. If you are interested in having your child audition for SDE, please consult with your child's Jazz teacher to see if your dancer is ready to audition for the group.
Applications & Agreement Packets, which will need to be read, filled out, and signed by a parent or legal guardian, are available in May of each year. Serious students with parents who are committed to bringing their child to weekly classes and rehearsal, extra rehearsals (sometimes held on Saturdays), and all required events (performances, conventions, and competitions on select Saturdays and weekends) need only apply/audition please.
Expenses involved with membership in Spectrum Dance Ensemble have been defrayed in the past by participation in fundraisers made possible by the Spectrum Dance Ensemble Booster Club. Fundraisers are optional and are intended to facilitate the member's ability to afford SDE costumes and event fees. Please check with our office regarding the status of our booster club if you are considering auditioning.
